101st Ushirika Day celebrations to be held on July 1

Cooperative movement stakeholders are gearing up to celebrate the 101st International Day of Cooperatives (Ushirika Day) on July 1, 2023 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

The event which is themed “Cooperatives for Sustainable Development” will be graced by President William Ruto as the chief guest.

Since 1923, cooperatives from around the world have been observing the day in recognition of the significant economic impact the cooperative movement has had on the world and the role it has played in building a more sustainable future.

The event also aims to raise awareness about cooperatives, the principles of the movement and the dedication of cooperatives to building a just future for everyone.

Since 1995, the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) and the Committee for the Promotion and Advancement of Cooperatives (COPAC), a United Nations (UN) institution, have collaborated to select the Ushirika Day celebrations’ theme.
