County Senior Assistant Commissioner for Co-operatives (SACC) Nathan Mukhweso (pictured) has called on Co-operative Societies in the area to conduct their businesses in accordance with the Co-operative Societies Act.
Mukhweso regretted that some Co-operative Societies were not working within their core mandate as Saccos, marketers, Sugar cane growers, Multipurpose or Savings/Credit Societies and threatened to recommend for their liquidation and eventual dissolution if they continue to flout the law.
“I don’t have powers to liquidate or dissolve a Co-operative Society. It is only the Commissioner for Co-operatives who wields such powers. My work is only to provide recommendation concerning various Co-operative societies,” he told Sacco Review in his office in Kakamega.
