Wanandege Sacco Society Ltd has resolved to cater for secondary school fees and shopping budget for two students whose parents are members of the Savings and Credit Co-Operative Sacco.
One student would have joined a Public secondary school while the other a private secondary school.
In an Annual Delegates Meeting held last year, members of Wanandege Sacco agreed to offer sponsorship to the two best performers in Kenya Certificate for Primary Education (KCPE) Examinations.
“This sponsorship caters for the first term fees and shopping for the best student selected to join a Public secondary school and the other to join a private secondary school. The two must be children belonging to our members,” said Boniface Muthama- the society’s CEO.
He said the sponsorship is part of an inward-looking Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme that the Society has launched to cater for the needs of its members who are the principal shareholders.
Bernard Mwangi Karau, a former pupil of Mwingo Academy in Mombasa and son of Joseph Nguru Karau, an employee of Kenya Airways in Mombasa, has received Sh27,588 from the Sacco to cater for his first term school fees at Alliance Boys High School where he has been admitted.
The student has also been given Sh15,000 in cash to cater for shopping expenses during the term, the amount given in total amounts to Sh42,588.00. Bernard scored 412 marks in 2016 KCPE examinations.
Robert Odhiambo Onyango, a former pupil of Ngere Primary School in Nyanza won sponsorship for the best student selected to join a private secondary school. His father is Moses Onyango also an employee of Kenya Airways.
Robert scored 394 marks and has joined Kanga High School in Rongo and has received a cheque for Sh30,000 to cater for first term school fees. He has also been given cash amounting to Sh15,000 to meet his shopping needs in the first term. In total, Robert has been given sponsorship totalling to Sh45,000.
“We intend to increase the number of students who will benefit from this school fees sponsorship programme, including going beyond first term of secondary school to sponsoring the first three students belonging to our members who excel in the primary schools national examinations. We are still at the formative stages at the moment,” said Mr Muthama.
The Sacco also visited Faith with Action Children’s Home in Embakasi on January 14 as part of its outward CSR programme and donated assortment of food items, clothing and blankets.
