Kakamega County Water and Sanitation Company (KACWASCO) has reason to celebrate after successfully defending its titles in both soccer and Isukuti dance championships during the 13th edition of the WASCO games held in Murang’a County last month.

Kakamega County Governor Fernandez Barasa received the coveted trophies on behalf of the KACWASCO teams, which demonstrated remarkable skill and dedication throughout the competition.

The soccer team and cultural dance troupe, led by  Patrick Chungani who also serves as the chairman of the Kenya National Union of Teachers(KNUT) for Kakamega County impressed judges and spectators alike.

Chungani expressed pride in the teams’ achievements, stating, “Both teams showcased exceptional skills, emerging best in their respective categories. Their hard work and dedication have truly put Kakamega on the map.”

In his address, Governor Barasa encouraged the teams to maintain their winning momentum in future competitions while advocating for KACWASCO to align its community engagement activities with the “Amatsi Khumuliango” initiative. This initiative aims to expand water access to every household in the county, underscoring the importance of sustainable development alongside cultural and sporting excellence.

The Governor announced plans for significant investment in sporting infrastructure to better nurture the abundant talent within Kakamega, particularly as the county gears up for the upcoming 3rd edition of the Governor’s Cup. “With the right facilities and support, we can turn Kakamega into a hub for athletic talent,” Barasa remarked.

The trophy presentation ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) led by Hon. Moses Musundi, County Executive members headed by Sports CECM Mr. Morphat Mandela, and KACWASCO staff led by Board Chair Mr. Boaz Bulimu, all of whom celebrated the teams’ achievements and looked ahead to future successes.

This dual victory not only highlights the cultural richness of Kakamega County but also emphasizes the importance of sports in fostering community pride and unity. As the county looks to build on this success, the focus remains on encouraging youth participation in both sports and cultural activities.
