Revenue streams at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, (JOOTRH) have increased from Ksh 30 million to Ksh 150 million between the financial year 2023-2024 and financial year 2024-2025 it has been revealed.
Hospital chief executive officer Dr Richard Lesiyampe said the hospital board has now set a target of Ksh 2.5 billon moving forward.
Lesiyampe said they managed to realize a total collection of Ksh 1.5 billion.
Speaking during a get together with staff members the CEO said the hospital increased staffing level by an additional 144 staff (8 medical officers, 40 nurses, 8 laboratory technologists, and 12 pharmaceutical technologists) hence improving efficiency.
Dr Lesiyampe said all outpatient services have been fully automated, leading to a substantial reduction in patient turnaround time adding that the hospital has realized clinical achievements which includes farewell home with modern equipment coupled acquired a new Ultrasound machine.
“We have acquired a Retina camera (Fundus Camera) used to screen diabetic patients across Kisumu County and nearby counties installed a modern dental chair. Also 1.65 Teslas MRI machine is scheduled for placement by the end of April as New CT-SCAN machines are slated for placement,” Dr Lesiyampe.

The elevation, he said, is expected to lead to increased access to specialized services, more advanced diagnostic tools, state-of-the-art medical equipment, and the recruitment of highly specialized medical personnel.
He added that all existing permanent and pensionable staff will be absorbed into the new establishment, reiterating that staff will undergo a categorization review to align their roles, qualifications, and experience with the new national staff establishment structure.
“New pay scales will be determined by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), aiming for improved remuneration while ensuring equity and sustainability across the public sector. Pension benefits will now fall under the regulatory framework of the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA), aligning with national guidelines for greater security and long-term planning,” CEO revealed.
The CEO said they have launched the Prime Care Centre (PCC), a 40-bed facility offering in-patient, out-patient, laboratory, and pharmacy services and established a 54-bed specialized orthopaedic surgical unit.
He added that the hospital have opened a new renovated and spacious Accident & Emergency (A&E) department, leading to a substantial increase in patient numbers.

He said they have increased the number of operating theatres from six to nine to handle a growing number of specialized surgical procedures and expanded ICU beds from four to nine to accommodate critically ill patients.
“We have increased dialysis capacity from seven beds to seventeen following the acquisition of seven HDF machines, offering enhanced care and prolonged quality of life for patients. The hospital also have increased hospital bed capacity from 676 to 867 with a total number of 84 consultants,” he said.
To enhance neurosurgical ward and burns units, the hospital have installed a lift to access 150-bed ward.
