The Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) recently concluded a three-day capacity-building workshop aimed at enhancing the regulatory and operational competencies of Cooperative Officers in Kiambu County.
The training, held from October 15 to 17 at the Kiambu Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), brought together dozens of officers for intensive sessions on financial governance, compliance, and emerging digital challenges.
The workshop is part of SASRA’s broader strategy to strengthen the cooperative sector’s regulatory framework and promote sound financial management practices across counties. Participants engaged in detailed discussions on financial reporting standards, internal auditing procedures, and risk assessment protocols tailored to the cooperative environment.

In addition to technical financial topics, the sessions addressed governance and legal mandates specific to county-level cooperatives. Officers were guided through the evolving landscape of investment regulations and compliance benchmarks, with emphasis on safeguarding member interests and ensuring institutional sustainability.
Delegates were also tipped on Anti-Money laundering and countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) awareness. Facilitators underscored the importance of data privacy and digital resilience, especially as SACCOs increasingly adopt fintech solutions and mobile-based platforms to serve members.
The initiative reflects SASRA’s commitment to building a financially inclusive, member-centric, and stable SACCO industry by equipping county officers with the right tools and knowledge.
The training also served as a platform for peer learning and cross-county collaboration, with officers sharing experiences and challenges from their respective jurisdictions.
