Sky Sacco is set to receive increased support from both the Turkish and Kisii County governments after their impressive performance in the corporate world.
The Sacco which ventured in hen production helps youth to borrow loans and in return bring forth one egg per week to repay the loan.
Speaking at the Kisii Governor’s boardroom,Turkey Ambassador to Kenya, Dannis Eke saidthe embassy has donated 2,500 cages to the Sacco to assist them house 500 local hens that will be loaned to members.
She encouraged the Sacco to extend its services to the community and sponsor education, provision of sanitation facilities and assist hungry children from poor homes with some food rations.
Eke who spoke when she paid a courtesy call on the governor, lauded the success story of ‘One Hen Campaign’ initiated “by youthful minds who chose to be job creators instead of job seekers to develop their country.”
Sky Sacco CEO, James Makini described the society as a financialgiant in the region set to go places, adding that it has already attracted 500 members since its inception in 2012.
Makini said the Sacco made good profit last year, part of which it used to give back to the community.
“We survive because of the community that nurtures us, so we give back as a token of appreciation to them,” he said.
Governor James Ongwae said the youths’ decision to start a Sacco has encouraged his government to invest more in their development activities.
