- KIE and Kiambu County signed an MoU to promote industrialization and support the growth of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
- The partnership aims to boost enterprise development, improve access to business support and create more economic opportunities for entrepreneurs in Kiambu.
Kenya Industrial Estates (KIE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the County Government of Kiambu to strengthen enterprise development, industrialization and the growth of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the county.
The signing ceremony marked a significant milestone in efforts to create an enabling environment for local entrepreneurs.
Speaking during the event, KIE Managing Director Nelson Kwamini highlighted the partnership’s potential to transform the county’s business landscape.
“The partnership will expand access to affordable financing, business incubation and enterprise development services creating an enabling environment for entrepreneurs to grow their businesses and generate employment,” Kwamini said.
He reaffirmed KIE’s commitment to providing technical expertise to ensure successful implementation of the MOU initiatives.
“We are dedicated to unlocking Kiambu’s entrepreneurial potential and driving sustainable economic growth,” he added.

The MoU is expected to facilitate greater collaboration in key areas including access to industrial sheds, business development support, skills training and market linkages for MSMEs. It aligns with broader national goals of decentralized industrialization and county level economic empowerment.
This partnership builds on KIE’s ongoing engagements with various county governments across Kenya. By working closely with devolved units, KIE aims to foster inclusive growth, promote value addition in local enterprises and create sustainable employment opportunities for residents.
County officials welcomed the collaboration, describing it as timely support for Kiambu’s vibrant entrepreneurial community.
The agreement is anticipated to catalyse new investments in agro processing, manufacturing and service sectors within the county.
The partnership arrives as Kiambu positions itself among the country’s most active counties for industrial investment. The 2023 to 2027 Kiambu County Integrated Development Plan already commits the devolved unit to establishing an MSME Aggregation Industry Park meant to boost the productivity of informal enterprises, alongside coffee value chain reforms and expanded road and utility infrastructure across its 12 sub counties. County data places Kiambu as Kenya’s second largest county economy by gross county product, an economic base built on agriculture, manufacturing and real estate.
