The National Employment Authority (NEA) in conjunction with Mumbuni Engineering and Driving School on Saturday held jobs recruitment exercise targeting 300 youth from Machakos County to work abroad in the Middle East.

Over 50 prospective job seekers with various skills turned up for the recruitment organized through Loivin recruitment agency.

Speaking during the exercise, the Mumbuni Engineering and Driving School director Collins Kaloki said many youth have in the past faced challenges due to high amount of fees charged by recruitment agencies adding that the current recruitment drive will be financed by the Youth Enterprise Development Fund.

“Today we have had a recruitment drive for youth to work in the Middle East. We have interviewed over 50 youth whose documents are being processed and I’m sure they are going out of the country very soon as the turnaround period given is around thirty days,” said Kaloki.

The director added that they will be conducting the same exercise in March 5 to 7, during the Machakos Trade Expo at Machakos Golf Club, to achieve their target which they could not due to the short notice period.

The recruits included Masons, plumbers, construction workers, waiters, security personnel, electrical technicians, mechanics, motorbike riders, and unskilled workers such as house helps.

“I urge our youth to come and grab the opportunities. I know many have been hesitant because of the documents required but the agents are ready to facilitate through the Youth Enterprise Development Fund. Once you are recruited you don’t miss the opportunity,” he said.

Kaloki further urged youth to acquire skills so as to be competitive when such opportunities arise.

His sentiments were echoed by the National Employment Authority official Geoffrey Lesayo who assured that the recruitment drive was legitimate and urged youth to turn up in large numbers during the next recruitment drive at Machakos Golf Club.
