Machakos County Governor Wavinya Ndeti has highlighted significant achievements in youth empowerment, showcasing the impact of her administration’s initiatives.
Speaking during her State of the County Address, Governor Ndeti emphasized the success of the Machakos Youth Service (MYS) program, which has equipped over 1,000 youth with practical skills in various fields, including plumbing, electrical engineering, and fashion design.
The program, designed to address unemployment and underutilization of youth talent, has seen 967 trainees successfully pass the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) examination, with the county government fully sponsoring the exams. Graduates have received startup kits tailored to their fields, enabling them to begin income-generating activities immediately.

Governor Ndeti’s administration has also launched a Sh120 million education bursary fund, benefiting approximately 28,000 needy students across the county’s 40 wards. This initiative aims to support families and promote access to quality education.
On Sports she cited the success of the Governor Wavinya Cup which has served to grow youth talents across the County and announced plans to expand the tournament to include athletics in subsequent editions.
Governor Ndeti reiterated her commitment to investing in the youth, citing it as a key pillar for securing the county’s future. She said the MYS program is expected to continue expanding, with plans to train 2,000 youth annually.
The Governor also highlited key achievements in other sectors including
Roads where the county has launched the “Barabara Mashinani” initiative, commissioning new road construction equipment to fast-track infrastructure projects. Over 3,158 kilometers of roads have been graded, with routine maintenance of the bitumen road network.
The county has also allocated Sh250 million towards the construction of the Machakos County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIP) to create opportunities for value addition and export markets.
