Three community-based savings and credit cooperatives (Saccos) in Magarini sub-county, Kilifi County, have received Sh1 million each from the county government to strengthen their bee-keeping projects and improve operational efficiency.
Magarini Sub-County Cooperative Officer, Edward Fondo, confirmed that the beneficiary Saccos are located in Garashi, Marafa, and Magarini wards. He explained that the funds will be directed toward building offices and purchasing computers, which will serve as honey collection centres for farmers in the region.
According to Fondo, the initiative is designed to enhance service delivery and create reliable structures for farmers to market their honey. He noted that Magarini has significant potential for honey production, with a ready market available across the country.
The Cooperative Officer urged farmers to embrace the cooperative movement by forming Saccos and investing heavily in them. He emphasized that joining Saccos is the surest way to achieve financial stability, access larger loans, and accomplish personal development projects.
