The Kericho County Governor, Dr. Erick Mutai has launched a county-wide vaccination campaign targeting 233,000 cattle against foot-and-mouth disease.
The exercise which aims to boost livestock immunity and prevent imminent disease outbreaks, show 210 cattle vaccinated at Kap Machuma Sub-Location 210 cattle were vaccinated with the campaign ongoing in Itoig.
Area Chief Wilson Koskey said the vaccination is part of a technology-driven, subsidized program, with farmers paying only Ksh50 per animal.
Veterinary surgeons and paraprofessionals, overseen by livestock and agricultural extension officers, are conducting the exercise using the ‘Mifugo 360’ technology, which employs a muzzle-scanning system.

The subsidy programme is coordinated jointly by the National and County Governments, with support from provincial administrators and village managers.
Meanwhile, Livestock Chief Officer Michael Bett urged farmers to also vaccinate domestic cats and dogs against rabies, warning that the disease is fatal and can easily spread from animals to humans.
