Former CEO of Eco Pillar SACCO arrested in connection with KSh 100 million fraud

The former CEO of Eco Pillar SACCO, Linus Lokira, has been arrested in connection with a major financial fraud that allegedly resulted in a loss of over KSh 100 million to the institution.

The suspect was taken into custody on April 26th by police in Kapenguria, where he was later released on cash bail.

According to a senior officer from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Lokira’s arrest follows a detailed investigation conducted by a multi-agency team, which included officers from the DCI’s West Pokot division and specialists from the Cybercrime and Digital Forensics Unit at DCI headquarters. The investigation uncovered a sophisticated fraud scheme through thorough system analysis.

Initial findings suggest that the suspect, in collaboration with other individuals still at large, played a central role in diverting SACCO funds into accounts linked to suspected accomplices.

Investigators revealed that the scheme involved the fraudulent issuance of cheques and the distribution of irregular SACCO-linked ATM cards, which were used to siphon funds over an extended period.

As part of the ongoing operation, investigators seized several critical materials, including six laptops and mobile phones, which are believed to contain key evidence in the case.

The authorities are continuing their investigation and working to identify and apprehend additional suspects believed to be part of a wider fraud network.

The investigation into the fraudulent activities is still in progress, and more arrests are expected as authorities piece together the full extent of the scam.
