Mumias Sugar 2021 Limited has announced that its factory in Western Kenya is fully operational and ready to receive sugarcane from all farmers following the completion of a planned four-week annual maintenance period.

The firm, operated by Sarrai Group under a lease arrangement, said the maintenance work has been concluded and the factory is now open without discrimination to all cane suppliers.

“Every farmer matters, and every cane delivery counts,” the management said, adding that the company is committed to paying farmers promptly, communicating openly and treating every cane grower with respect.

The statement comes as Mumias Sugar seeks to rebuild trust with farmers in the Western region, years after the company went into administration and left thousands of cane growers without a market for their crop. The management acknowledged the economic devastation that the company’s collapse caused to farming families who depend on cane growing for their livelihoods.

Under its current operator, the company is positioning farmers at the centre of its revival strategy, saying its goal is to restore the former glory of one of East and Central Africa’s most iconic sugar brands.

To deepen farmer engagement, the management said it will use social media platforms to collect views and address concerns going forward. Farmers can reach the company through its Facebook page, Mumias Sugar 2021 Limited, and on X at @mumiassugar2021, using the hashtags #MkulimaKwanza, #SemaNaMumiasSugar, #MumiasSugarThePrideOfWestern, and #NaturalKenyanSweetness.

“The management is listening, and we are determined to solve issues together,” the statement read, urging farmers to partner with the firm in its comeback effort. “Mumias Sugar is rising again because of you so let’s rebuild together.”
