  • SASRA has opened applications for DT SACCOs seeking to renew their licences for 2027.
  • Regulated SACCOs have until September 30, 2026, to complete their renewal applications.
  • The regulator will publish the list of SACCOs licensed for 2027 by January 31 next year.

The Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) has opened the renewal window for 2027 deposit-taking (DT) SACCO licences. As a result, regulated Saccos now have until September 30, 2026, to submit their applications.

According to the regulator, applications must follow the Guidance Note and Licence Application Checklist, both available on its official website.

A key annual compliance requirement

The annual licensing process remains a key regulatory requirement for DT SACCOs. To continue offering deposit-taking services, these SACCOs must meet SASRA’s regulatory and compliance requirements.

SASRA further said it will publish the official list of DT SACCOs licensed for 2027 on or before January 31, 2027.

Deadline puts compliance in focus

Ultimately, the renewal deadline places compliance at the centre of the sector’s preparations for the new licensing year. Therefore, SACCOs must complete their applications before the September 30 deadline.

Sacco Review will continue tracking the 2027 SACCO licensing process, as well as the regulator’s eventual list of approved institutions.
