  • James Githinji Mwangi elected KTDA Holdings chairman, succeeding Enos Njeru.
  • Engineer Samson Mosonik Menjo retains his position as vice chairman.
  • The new chairman takes over as KTDA pledges continued focus on factory efficiency and better returns for tea farmers.

James Githinji Mwangi will lead the Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) Holdings Limited after the National Board elected him chairman in Nairobi on November 3, 2026. He steps in for Enos Njeru, whose latest stint at the top lasted about eight months.

Mwangi arrives from the board’s Zone 2 seat, which covers factories in Murang’a County. He has also been linked to Ngere Tea Factory, where he served as chairman before moving to national level. Engineer Samson Mosonik Menjo keeps his place as vice chairman.

KTDA Corporate Communications confirmed the result in a statement. It sought to reassure farmers, factory directors and trading partners that the handover will not disturb operations. The board said it will keep its focus on efficiency and on getting better returns to tea growers.

Njeru leaves after an uneven run. He was first appointed chairman on July 17, 2023, and he won a second term in 2024. Chege Kirundi replaced him in 2025, but directors brought him back in March 2026. Njeru represents Zone Six in Embu County.

Njeru has pointed to concrete gains from his time in office. He said KTDA ensured prompt payment to farmers, raised monetary returns and launched a premium Kenyan tea product, Chai Gold. He also pushed for the Tea Act to be implemented and for a wider market reach to cut the volume of unsold tea.
