he County has initiated the process of developing a co-operative development policy. The policy aims at creating a sustainable enabling environment for the growth and development of co-operative societies in the county.
Edward Nyaga (below), the County director for Co-operative Development told Sacco Review that, this will be a framework that is pro-co-operative growth, more particularly recognizing the co-operative principles.
“At times people tend to think that we are carrying out our regulatory duty in total disregard of the Principle of autonomy, but the policy is clear on this. We will exercise minimal degree of regulation leaving the greater bit to the co-operatives themselves” he said.
