Co-operatives and MSMEs Ministry Tops Public Service Performance Awards

The Ministry of Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development has been ranked first in the Ministerial Best Improved Performance Category for the 2024/25 financial year, earning national recognition during the Public Service Performance Awards ceremony officiated by President William Ruto on 19 th June, 2026.

The ministry received a Certificate of Excellence in Performance at the event held at the Kenya School of Government, Lower Kabete, marking a milestone in its efforts to strengthen service delivery and drive growth in the cooperative and MSME sectors.

Principal Secretary (PS) for the State Department of Cooperatives, Patrick Kilemi, hailed the achievement as a reflection of the ministry’s commitment to professionalism and innovation.

“This recognition is a testament to the dedication, professionalism, and hard work of our staff, partners, and stakeholders who continue to champion the growth of the cooperative movement and MSME sector across the country.”

Kilemi further applauded the ministry’s staff, popularly referred to as Team Ushirika, for their resilience and focus on service delivery.

“This achievement belongs to all of us. Thank you for your commitment, resilience, and unwavering focus on service delivery. Let us keep grinding, innovating, and raising the bar as we work towards building stronger cooperatives and transforming livelihoods for millions of Kenyans,” he added.

According to PS Kilemi, the recognition underscores the ministry’s growing role in advancing inclusive economic development through cooperatives and MSMEs, sectors that remain central to job creation and poverty reduction in Kenya.
