The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Trade, Industry and Cooperatives has challenged the Sotik , New Kenya Co-operative Creameries (KCC) Limited management to recognize and support the efforts of farmers supplying milk to the facility.

Members who concluded an inspection visit of the milk processing plant in Bomet County urged officials to prioritise farmers’ welfare and strengthen engagement with stakeholders.

The Committee delegation led by Vice Chairperson Marianne Kitany (Aldai) was on a fact-finding mission following a request for a statement by area MP Francis Sigei, regarding the status of the milk processing factory after upgrading.

In the statement presented to the House on April 30, 2025 Sigei sought to know the steps taken to address concerns about low wages paid to casual workers at the plant.

The Committee held a consultative meeting with the Acting Managing Director of New KCC Samuel Ichura. The session also brought together representatives of the factory’s management and dairy farmers from the region.

During the engagement, farmers raised concerns about delays in payment and lack of adequate involvement in key decision-making processes.

The Committee directed New KCC officials to submit a preliminary plan within a month outlining how they intend to ensure timely payments to farmers, improve stakeholder relations, and enhance the performance of the facility by making it a cost centre.
