The Senate Standing Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries has reviewed amendments made by the National Assembly to the Agriculture and Livestock Extension Service Bill, 2022 (Senate Bill No. 12 of 2022).
During its consideration of Committee Paper No. 172, the committee examined each proposed amendment as part of the bicameral legislative process. It assessed the impact of each amendment on the Bill’s objectives and key provisions.
The Agriculture and Livestock Extension Service Bill aims to create a comprehensive legal framework for the coordination, regulation and delivery of agricultural and livestock extension services nationwide.

The proposed legislation is expected to improve extension services by fostering collaboration between the national and county governments. It would also expand farmers’ access to technical expertise, innovation and modern farming practices.
During the meeting, committee members reviewed the amendments proposed by the National Assembly to determine whether they aligned with the objectives of the Bill and would enhance the framework for delivering extension services.
The committee also examined the potential impact of the amendments on the mandates and responsibilities of institutions involved in agricultural and livestock extension services. The goal was to ensure the law effectively promotes agricultural productivity, food security and sustainable livestock development.
Following the deliberations, the committee is expected to compile a report outlining its recommendations on the Schedule of Amendments for consideration by the Senate during plenary sittings.
