The Directorate of eCitizen Services has notified the public that all payment services on the eCitizen platform will be temporarily suspended for system maintenance on Saturday, July 18. Payments services will be unavailable from 7 PM and resume at midnight, a five-hour window.

In a public notice, the government said the upgrade is aimed at improving the eCitizen payment gateway and overall service delivery. The Directorate explained that the upgrade forms part of ongoing efforts to improve delivery of services and enhance the efficiency of the platform. “During this period, all payment services on eCitizen will be temporarily unavailable,” the notice stated.

Users who need to make payments for government services have been advised to complete their transactions before the maintenance begins or wait until the platform is restored after midnight.

The Directorate apologised for the inconvenience and thanked Kenyans for their patience as it carries out system improvements aimed at enhancing service delivery.

This is not the first time eCitizen has announced a temporary service interruption. The government has previously scheduled maintenance windows to upgrade the platform’s infrastructure, strengthen payment systems and improve overall performance as demand for digital government services continues to grow.

The latest system maintenance notice comes as the government continues implementing upgrades across its digital public service platforms to boost efficiency and improve the user experience.

The platform remains Kenya’s central online portal for accessing hundreds of government services, including passport applications, business registration, driving licence services, land transactions, tax payments and police clearance certificates. Scheduled maintenance is typically carried out during off-peak hours to minimise disruption for users.
