- Tai DT Sacco mourns the loss of its Supervisory Committee chairman
- His service spanned teaching, cooperative leadership and housing initiatives
- Colleagues, leaders and community members gathered to honour his legacy
Tai DT Sacco is mourning Francis Gitau Michino, its Supervisory Committee chairman, who was laid to rest on Friday, September 18, 2026. He was buried at his home in Gachoire, near Gachema Tea Buying Centre, in Lari Sub-County, Kiambu County.
Mr Michino died after a brief illness. His passing has left a deep void in the Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (Sacco) and the wider cooperative movement.
The funeral cortege left Mukoe Funeral Home in Githunguri early on Friday. It then proceeded to his ancestral home for the burial service.

Mourners included colleagues from Tai DT Sacco, representatives of county governments and local leaders. Community members also turned up in large numbers to pay their last respects.
Mr Michino was a retired teacher. He spent much of his life in public service, education and financial empowerment.
Later, he channelled that passion into the cooperative movement. He served as chairman of the Supervisory Committee at Tai DT Sacco. In that role, he helped safeguard governance, member assets and internal compliance.
Beyond the Sacco, he was a founder member and founding trustee of Tai Housing Cooperative Society. Through that vision, hundreds of members gained access to affordable housing and land ownership.
In an official condolence message, the board, management and staff of Tai DT Sacco praised his dedication, financial stewardship and mentorship. They said his service would remain a lasting part of the institution.
“Fare thee well, our director, father, teacher, mentor and leader. Today, we bid farewell to a remarkable man whose wisdom, guidance, dedication, and service touched many lives. Your legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those you led, taught, mentored, and inspired. May your soul rest in eternal peace. Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.”
