Imarika DT Sacco celebrated International Cooperatives Day, locally known as Ushirika Day, on Saturday, July 6, 2024.
The Sacco Chairman John Nziro, Board of Directors, CEO George Yongo Ngala, and management, along with other key figures, gathered to mark the 102nd Ushirika Day.
Kilifi County Governor Gideon Mung’aro was also in attendance.
The Ushirika Day celebrations in Kenya were postponed indefinitely due to the unrest stemming from ongoing protests. This was according to a memo by the National Ushirika Day Celebration Council addressing all the cooperative societies, dated July 1, 2024.

Imarika was registered on in 1974 in Kilifi to provide a savings platform to members and advancing loans to them at an affordable interest rate.
Ushirika Day, also known as International Co-operatives Day, is celebrated globally on the first Saturday of July each year. It is recognized by the United Nations and the International Co-operative Alliance (ICA).
It is a day dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the contributions of cooperatives to socio-economic development and promoting the cooperative movement’s values and principles.
In Kenya, Ushirika Day holds particular importance due to the substantial role of cooperatives in the country’s economy and social structure.
Kenya has a vibrant cooperative movement, with numerous cooperative societies involved in various sectors.
Celebrations often involve government officials, cooperative leaders, and members, highlighting the sector’s contributions to national development.
