KenGen names Ronoh Kibet as new CEO

Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) has chosen an insider steeped in its commercial expansion, Ronoh Kibet, as its next chief executive from February 1, 2027.

Kibet is currently General Manager for Commercial Services. In that seat, he runs energy markets, investments, new business, partnerships and sustainability. He steps into the shoes of Eng. Peter Waweru Njenga, who is retiring.

KenGen says it settled on Kibet after a competitive recruitment process. To keep the handover orderly, the company has also set aside a transition period before Njenga leaves.

Under Njenga, KenGen posted a profit after tax of Ksh10.48 billion in the 2025 financial year. Geothermal consultancy also grew into a real business line during his tenure, including work in Eswatini.

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology awarded him a bachelor’s degree in telecommunication and information engineering, followed by a master’s degree in project management. He is also a certified Project Management Professional.

Kibet has completed an organisational leadership programme at Harvard Business School. His record also includes executive education at IESE Business School in Spain, the University of Cape Town and Strathmore Business School.
