The County Government of Kitui, led by Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the B2 Yatta Ranching Cooperative Society Limited.
The MoU was officially signed on Thursday, April 10, during a well-attended public ceremony that took place at the Governor’s Office Block Grounds in Kitui County.
In an event that brought together members of the County Assembly, County Executive Committee Members, senior public officers, representatives of the Cooperative Society, religious leaders, members of the media, and local residents saw the signing of the MoU which outlines the initiatives to be undertaken.
Such initiatives include; the development of key infrastructure such as roads, boreholes, electricity connection and the construction of earth dams, security enhancement, promotion of tourism in the area, provision of technological support and value addition opportunities, environmental conservation efforts through tree planting, the establishment of mechanisms for conflict resolution, and a review of land lease agreements to allow greater flexibility for ranching-related development.

Governor Malombe described the MoU as a transformative step and a clear demonstration of how collaboration between government and community institutions can drive meaningful change.
“This occasion, the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the County Government of Kitui and B2 Yatta Ranching Cooperative Society, is a testament to our shared commitment towards progress, sustainability and prosperity for all,” said Malombe
He reaffirmed that cooperatives will be a central pillar in the implementation of his administration’s manifesto, dubbed as The Kitui Promise.
“The MoU resonates with my manifesto ‘The Kitui Promise’, which recognizes cooperatives as key drivers of investments and industrialization in Kitui County,” he states

The intent behind the MoU is the need to empower communities, unlock economic potential, and build a more inclusive, prosperous, and sustainable county economy.
Dr. Malombe emphasized that cooperative is a vital tool for employment and wealth creation adding that the initiative is in direct alignment with the County’s development strategy, which identifies Six Economic and Investment Zones (EIZs) as key engines for growth.

“The department of cooperatives is mandated to strengthen and capacity build the cooperative movement in various sectors in the County for employment and wealth creation in all the county’s Six (6) Economic & Investment Zones (EIZs).” he emphasized
He further stressed the importance of a mind-set change, encouraging the people of Kitui to move away from a perception of scarcity and embrace a vision of abundance and self-reliance.
“Let us be agents of mind-set change, from a people who view themselves as not adequately resourced to a community that fully appreciates the many economic opportunities,” he said
