Meru county and the state of Nebraska from United States are set to work together in an effort to boost dairy farming
This was confirmed by the Secretary of state of Nebraska Robert Evnen, who said they will partner with Meru Dairy Cooperative Union to develop animal feeds.
Evnen visited Meru Dairy Cooperative Union in Meru County, where he described the facility as a world class factory.
“Farmers of this Cooperative have a reason to be very proud of Mount Kenya Milk processing plant. It’s an honour to tour such a facility,” Evnen said.
“We have ways in which we can help because we at Nebraska have animal feed factories. We have feed supplements that cows love and are very high in digestive proteins. We are confident it can help increase the production of milk,” he said.
Evnen said the University of Nebraska will also reach an agreement to work with Meru University in agriculture technology, health science and animal science.

Meru Deputy governor Linda Kiome said they aim to create a partnership with Nebraska that heavily relies on agriculture to propel its economy similar to Meru.
“Nebraska is key to agriculture. It has a lot of similarities with Meru County. Nebraska is good in beef,maize farming as well as dairy,” she said.
Kiome said they will partner on how they can reduce livestock diseases in order to improve breeds yields as well as improve skills that can make an impact.
She spoke when the delegation led by Secretary of State of Nebraska in the United States of America Robert Evnen visited the dairy factory.

Kiome said they will soon sign a memorandum of understanding and form a select committee to formalise the partnership.
“We want to reap benefits, tap in resources and exchange that can come from the partnership,” Kiome said.
The Meru Dairy Union CEO Kennedy Gitonga said they are delighted as they have gotten ideas on how to make quality animal feeds.
“They have some samples of animal feed they would like us to test to help formulate the best feed for cows here in Meru as we are doing a feed milling factory ,” he said.
He said Meru dairy produces 600,000 litres per day noting that they might increase their production if they partner.
