Busia’s Mungatsi Sacco cleared to operate after lengthy registration hurdles

After years of bureaucratic delays, the Mungatsi Economic Warriors Cooperative Society has finally been cleared to operate as a fully registered Sacco in Busia County.

The long‑awaited approval, granted after intervention by the Department of Trade and Cooperatives, has paved the way for the society to begin mobilising savings and offering credit services under a formal regulatory framework.

The official launch, held in Busia, was presided over by Deputy Governor Arthur Odera, who hailed the milestone as a turning point for grassroots economic empowerment. He emphasised that cooperative movements remain vital in strengthening community resilience and expanding access to financial services for ordinary citizens.

Odera noted that the society had already benefited from structured training and technical support provided by the department, which has been instrumental in preparing members for effective management and long‑term sustainability. He urged members to embrace discipline, unity, and growth as guiding principles in their cooperative journey.

“Focus on growth and uplifting each other for a better tomorrow,” the Deputy Governor told members, expressing confidence that the Sacco would transform livelihoods across the community.

The Department of Trade and Cooperatives, represented at the event, reiterated its commitment to streamlining Sacco registration processes and supporting emerging cooperatives to enhance financial inclusion and strengthen local economic development.

The successful launch marks the beginning of a new operational phase for the Sacco, with expectations high that it will contribute to improved financial stability and shared prosperity within the community.

With its registration hurdles now behind it, the Mungatsi Economic Warriors Cooperative Society enters a new operational phase. Expectations are high that the Sacco will support income‑generating activities that can improve financial stability and shared prosperity among its members.
