Nairobi coffee market Nets KSh31.7 billion in eight months of trading

The Nairobi Coffee Market has generated KSh31.7 billion in just eight months of trading, underscoring the sector’s resilience and growing confidence among farmers.

Between October 1, 2025, and May 12, 2026, the market, managed by the Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE), auctioned 602,973 bags in the 2025/2026 coffee year.

Reports show that Alliance Berries Limited led the brokers, auctioning 193,031 bags worth KSh10.5 billion, followed by New KPCU with 93,467 bags (KSh4.7 billion) and Kirinyaga Slopes with 93,377 bags (KSh4.4 billion). Other brokers included Kipkelion (48,402 bags, KSh2.5 billion), CEBBA (29,711 bags, KSh1.5 billion), and Murang’a (9,826 bags, KSh500 million).

NCE Chief Executive Officer Lisper Ndung’u said the auction offered competitive prices, boosting farmer earnings. “More farmers continued trading through the auction owing to the confidence based on high performance,” she noted.

In Murang’a, Gatagua Agro Marketing Cooperative achieved a price of KSh141 per kilogramme, while in Kirinyaga, Baragwi, Rungeto, and Kabare cooperatives emerged among the best performers.

On the buyers’ side, 44 coffee dealers purchased a total of 591,695 bags. Ibero Kenya led with 178,966 bags, controlling 30.28 percent of purchases. Other major buyers included C‑Dorman (93,323 bags, 15.64 percent), Kenyacof (70,663 bags, 11.94 percent), Taylor Winch (65,443 bags, 11.06 percent), Louis Dreyfus (57,380 bags, 9.75 percent), and Sasani (51,980 bags, 8.74 percent).

Coffee value chain expert Henry Kinyua observed that most of the commodity was shipped to Belgium, France, Germany, and the United States through the direct sales window, reflecting Kenya’s strong foothold in premium international markets..
