Oparanya urges Migori coffee farmers to sell locally

Cooperatives CS Wycliffe Oparanya

Cooperatives CS Wycliffe Oparanya has told Migori coffee farmers to stop selling produce across county borders and tap the local market instead for better returns.

Oparanya made the call while speaking in Suna West sub-county during an empowerment programme organised for local farmers. He said many Migori growers have been ferrying their coffee to neighbouring counties instead of selling within Kenya’s own market structures.

The CS encouraged the farmers to explore opportunities within the Kenyan coffee value chain, arguing that doing so would help them maximise profits rather than lose value to cross-border middlemen.
