PS Kilemi urges co-operators to embrace collaboration

Principal Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Co-operatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development, Patrick Kiburi Kilemi, has emphasized the importance of cooperative policies in driving the economy.

Speaking during a consultative meeting in Nairobi with co-operative developers today, PS Kilemi urged policy planners to collaborate and utilize their expertise for the benefit of co-operators.

Kilemi highlighted the significance of transparency and efficient market systems in enhancing productivity, profitability and savings.

“Transparency and proper market systems will be vital in facilitating productivity, profits and savings. In line with the cooperative agenda, I can confirm that the Cooperatives Bill 2023 has been signed and is ready to be transmitted to Parliament,” he said.

The PS further reiterated the government’s recognition of the cooperative movement as a crucial contributor to social and economic development.

In attendance were; Commissioner for Cooperatives David Obonyo,  International Cooperatives Alliance-Africa (ICA) CEO Dr. Chiyoge B. Sifa, Kenya Union of Savings and Credit Cooperatives Ltd. (KUSCCO) Mercy Njeru, Prof. Isaack Nyamungo from the Cooperative University of Kenya (CUK), and Joel Imitira who provides policy support for the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
