Repair our roads, Bus Sacco demands

By Our Reporter.

Garissa Travellers Sacco has challenged the County Government to repair the road between Garissa town and Masalani to ease transportation of both passengers and goods.
“We incur a lot of costs in maintenance of buses due to tear and wear of vehicles. These costs force us to charge high fares,” said Osman Tutuna Garissa Town Travellers Sacco chairman. Matatu drivers and conductors have been complaining about the condition of the road.
“We urge both the Garissa County and the National governments to repair the road as soon as possible. Garissa County Governor Nadhif Jama, commenting on the matter assured that his government would repair the road.
Fafi MP, Elias Bare Shill, who spoke to Sacco Review called for disbandment of Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA) as they have failed in their duty of road maintenance and construction across the county.
Shill suggested that road construction ought to be devolved in the counties as the County governments are best suited in supervising and managing the road work.
‘We are charged Sh1,000 for the 200km, Garissa-Masalani journey whereas for the 50km distance between Masalani to Handaro we pay Sh500,’’ said Sigoria.
