Rice co-op offers new life to farmers

By Washington Okellah

Hundreds of rice growers from Bunyala sub-county in Busia County, who are members of Bunyala Rice Farmers’ Cooperative Society Ltd, are set to earn more.

The Society has harvested and sold rice planted on 700 acre parcel of land according to its chairman Robert Musolo.

He said they have a membership of 750 farmers.

The chairman at the same time assured members that the society is expected to enter into an agreement with the Lake Basin Development Authority to maximize benefits on members.

Stephen Adinda, a farmer, termed the new rice cooperative as “saviour” to area residents who rely on rice production.
