President William Ruto has called for transformation of Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisations (SACCOs) into stronger, more efficient institutions that directly benefit Kenyan communities.
Speaking at State House in Nairobi, after receiving a report from experts who reviewed the governance and operations of SACCOs, President Ruto said there is need for SACCOs to modernize systems, adopt fintech solutions, and improve service delivery.
“These reforms are about ensuring that SACCOs remain a reliable source of credit for our people,” the President said. “They will help communities access affordable loans, protect their savings, and build stronger local economies.

The call for proposed changes come as SACCOs continue to play a critical role in supporting small businesses, farmers, and informal sector workers who rely on cooperative savings and loans to meet daily needs and grow their enterprises.
President Ruto emphasized that strengthening SACCOs will empower ordinary Kenyans, boost financial inclusion, and drive community-led economic growth across the country.
