Stakeholders call for urgent solutions to devastating hacking cases

Following an increase in hacking in the country, attributed to massive tech job layoffs, which have in recent years plagued many enterprises, organizations have been urged to convert the negative energy of hackers into positive energy by creating opportunities for them.

As a result of increased cyberattacks (hacking) and ransomware, many institutions have been grappling with financial loss, reputational damage, regulatory non-compliance, and identity theft, necessitating the need for institutions to protect their systems and customer data from threats.

According to Michael Mugo, the Principal Officer at CIC Microinsurance—CIC Group, lack of opportunities for youngsters should be blamed for cyberattacks that continue to devastate Kenya’s digital infrastructure.

Speaking at local university, Mugo called on corporations to offer the youth alternative opportunities to restore the public’s confidence in cybersecurity.

In a world filled with turbulence, Mugo emphasized the importance of leveraging relationships, technology, and partnerships in research to drive impactful leadership.

“It will be important as a nation to tap and convert the negative energy in the young people into something transformative to ensure that our corporations thrive,” stated Mugo.

“We must leverage technology to create opportunities that will take the country forward. We have to embrace the relationships and networks that we have, harness the power of partnerships and collaborations in research to make a lasting impact as thought leaders of the ever-evolving 21st century,” remarked Mugo.

On his part, former Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation Joseph Wairagu stated that in the wake of technological growth, the government should put a lot of weight on data protection to safeguard information and data.

“If we don’t enforce compliance with the Data Protection Act of 2019, it will be misused. The government should put a lot of weight on it to minimize hacking cases,” stated Wairagu.
