- Tea factories declare lower bonuses for the 2025/2026 season
- Farmer payouts vary widely across factories
- Some factories announce bonuses of less than Ksh 20 per kilo
Tea farmers are set to receive a low bonus in the month following the declaration of the much awaited payment for the 2025/2026 year.
The payment reflects a reduction compared with that of the 2024/2025 financial year. This follows major challenges that disrupted the tea market, among them the closure of the Strait of Hormuz following the battle between Iran, Israel and the United States (US).
Some of the factory boards that declared the bonus are Rukuriri at Ksh 50 per kg, Ngere at Ksh 48 per kg, Mungania at Ksh 43.80 per kg and Kathangariri at Ksh 40 per kg.
Meanwhile, Gathuthi declared Ksh 47.50 per kg, Njunu Ksh 45.20 per kg and Makomboki Ksh 45 per kg. Momul and Gitugi each declared Ksh 40.50 per kg, while Nduti declared Ksh 40 per kg.

Further down the list, Chinga declared Ksh 36 per kg, Mataara Ksh 33.50 per kg, Iriaini Ksh 33 per kg and Kiru Ksh 31 per kg.
Others are Weru Tea at Ksh 34.70 per kg, Githambo at Ksh 30.30 per kg and Kanyenya Ini at Ksh 30 per kg. At the lowest end, Gianchore declared Ksh 18 per kg and Kaptumo Ksh 12.50 per kg.
