Youths to receive NYOTA project funds in September, Ruto says

President William Ruto has announced that the government will release National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project, funds starting September this year.

Ruto who was speaking in During the International Youth Day celebrations in Kakamega County said the government is expanding opportunities for young people across the country.

The President announced that the first cohort of 54,000 beneficiaries under the Business Support intervention will receive Ksh50, 000 each under the NYOTA programme.

They will receive their first tranche of business capital next month, after completing business skills training.

The project received an overwhelming one million applications against a target of 100,000 for business support.

He added that the remaining pool will be absorbed into the fourth intervention, which will equip them with the skills and knowledge to access Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) and tap into the opportunities available.

Other interventions under the NYOTA Project include the On-the-Job Experience, which will equip young people with in-demand socio-emotional and work-readiness skills while providing real work exposure through apprenticeships.

He further spoke about the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which will certify 20,000 youth for skills gained through informal or non-formal settings, enabling them to use these qualifications to access better opportunities.

The President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering youth across Kenya and advancing economic inclusion under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
