The Narok County Government has unveiled plans to establish 20 livestock saleyards across the county in a bid to enhance trade, improve market infrastructure, and uplift the livelihoods of local livestock traders.
Speaking during the official opening of a new saleyard at Mulot Market in Narok West Sub-county, Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu said the initiative marks a major milestone in promoting economic growth and creating a favorable business environment.
“Making the saleyard operational will rejuvenate business activities and, in turn, improve the socio-economic status of our people,” Governor Ntutu said.
He added that within the next month, traders will also be allocated modern stalls currently under construction around the facility to ensure a decent and organized working environment. These stalls will also accommodate other essential services required during market days.
The Mulot saleyard is equipped with key amenities including a county cess office, washrooms, and a livestock water point to provide a conducive trading environment.

Governor Ntutu expressed confidence that the new facilities will significantly boost county revenue collection, which currently stands at Ksh150,000 per day, noting that the funds will be reinvested in improving service delivery and launching additional development projects.
“The revenue collected will help foster development projects and create job opportunities for many,” he stated.
On a typical market day, traders at Mulot Market sell between 1,500 to 2,000 cattle and about 1,000 goats and sheep, figures that are expected to rise with the improved infrastructure and enhanced trading conditions.
The establishment of the saleyards underscores the county’s commitment to strengthening the livestock sector, which remains a key driver of the local economy.
