The County Government of Kisumu is strengthening its partnership with the Kingdom of Netherlands to augment investments in water, sanitation, energy, and climate change, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Mathews Owili has announced.
Speaking during the commissioning of the Mowlem Water Booster and the Nyalunya Aqua Uplift Project which were both graced by the Dutch Ambassador to Kenya, Henk Jan Bekker, Kiwasco Chairperson Phylis Chepkemoi and CEO Thomas Odongo, Owili said the initiatives will deliver clean, reliable water to more than 12,000 households in Kisumu East Sub-County.
He emphasized the commitment of the County to ensure service delivery to all its citizens, saying it is  part of the manifesto of Governor Anyang Nyong’o.
Earlier Nyong’o had held discussions with the envoy, which were aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and enhance the efficiency and sustainability of some of the County’s utility services.
The completed projects have delivered significant improvements, including: New household water connections, Reactivation of dormant connections, Construction of two water kiosks and Installation of a 150m³ elevated steel water tank.
The investments have greatly enhanced access to safe and dependable water for residents of Nyamasaria, Nyalunya, and Buoye areas.

The delegation later visited KIWASCO Headquarters for a boardroom session showcasing ongoing and planned initiatives under the VEI partnership.
During the visit, the Ambassador also officially opened KIWASCO’s Lactation Room, highlighting the organization’s continued focus on inclusive workplace practices, staff welfare, and gender-responsive initiatives.
The tour concluded with a visit to the Dunga Treatment Plant, where the team reviewed key operational areas, energy consumption patterns, and upcoming interventions, including the solarization project designed to address inefficiencies and enhance sustainability.
The visit equally provided an opportunity to demonstrate KIWASCO’s commitment to infrastructure development, operational excellence, and the delivery of high-quality, potable water to the people of Kisumu.
