Revenue collection officers in Kisii County on Monday underwent a one-day training at the Kisii Farmers Agricultural Training Centre aimed at enhancing efficiency, accountability, and professionalism in public service delivery.

The training brought together officers from all sub-counties to address gaps in revenue administration and equip staff with practical skills to meet the evolving demands of devolved governance.

A key focus of the session was the adoption of technology in financial record-keeping and revenue management. Officers were trained on the use of digital platforms for revenue collection, receipting, and reporting.

Facilitators emphasized the need to transition from manual ledger systems to digital processes in order to reduce errors, curb revenue leakages, and improve transparency. The officers were also taken through data management procedures, reconciliation of daily collections, and preparation of accurate audit reports.

The training further highlighted the importance of customer relations and discipline in the workplace. Facilitators urged officers to uphold courtesy, patience, and effective communication when dealing with taxpayers and traders, noting that public goodwill is essential for revenue compliance.

Participants were also trained on conflict resolution, professional handling of complaints, and maintaining a service-oriented approach even under pressure.

The session additionally underscored the importance of personal image in public service. Officers were reminded that their conduct, dress code, and punctuality directly influence public confidence in the county government.

“They are the face of the county government at markets, bus parks, and licensing points, and professionalism is key to building trust in the revenue system,” one facilitator noted.

The training was graced by Kisii Governor Simba Arati, accompanied by senior county officials. The governor commended the officers for attending the session and warned against laxity in service delivery.

“You were employed to serve the people with all you know. Go and improve further than this,” said Arati.

County officials said the programme is part of a broader strategy to seal revenue loopholes and increase the county’s own-source revenue without placing additional burdens on residents.

Participants described the training as timely and practical, saying improved record-keeping and better public relations would ease their work and help reduce confrontations with members of the public.
