Capital DT Sacco CEO arraigned over alleged Ksh39 million fraud

  • Capital DT Sacco CEO Stephen Murithi has been arraigned over alleged fraud of Ksh39 million from the Sacco.
  • He was granted bond of Ksh1 million, with mention set for August 19 and hearing for October 15, 2026.
  • The alleged fraud occurred at the Sacco’s Meru offices between February and April 2026.

Capital DT Sacco Chief Executive Officer Stephen Murithi has been arraigned in court and charged with three counts following his arrest by fraud investigators from the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA).

Murithi was arrested on Monday by SASRA fraud investigation officers over alleged financial impropriety and subsequently processed and placed in custody before appearing in a Meru court on Tuesday.

He took plea and was granted a bond of Ksh1 million, with an alternative cash bail of Ksh500,000 and two sureties.

The case will be mentioned on August 19, 2026, while the hearing has been scheduled for October 15, 2026.

According to a charge sheet seen by Sacco Review, Murithi is accused of allegedly stealing Ksh39 million belonging to Capital DT Sacco.

The charge sheet alleges that “on diverse dates between February 23 and April 25, 2026, at the Capital DT Sacco offices in Meru County, being the chief executive officer of the Sacco, stole Ksh39 million, property of Capital DT Sacco Society, which had came into your possession by virtue of his employment.”

Murithi remains presumed innocent until proven guilty.
