- Mary Awino appointed acting CEO of IG Sacco from August 2026.
- She previously served as Finance Manager, improving revenue, costs, liquidity and compliance
Invest and Grow (IG) Sacco has appointed Mary Awino as acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with effect from August 2026, after Dr CPA Peter A. Vuhya proceeded on terminal leave pending his retirement from the Sacco. Ms Awino will serve in an acting capacity until the board approves a substantive CEO.
Ms Awino previously served as the Sacco’s Finance Manager. Her elevation is widely viewed as a natural progression, given her track record of financial prudence and strategic innovation in that role. IG Sacco is the largest teachers’ Sacco in western Kenya.

During her time as Finance Manager, Ms Awino oversaw strategic financial planning and investment management initiatives that increased the society’s revenue by a steady 20 per cent annually. Her budgeting and cost control measures also cut operating costs by 15 per cent, improving operational efficiency.

She stabilised the Sacco’s liquidity position, reducing reliance on bank overdrafts and loans and strengthening the society’s financial independence. In addition, she diversified the investment portfolio to build a more resilient revenue stream against market volatility.
On regulatory compliance, Ms Awino implemented a new financial reporting system that improved accuracy and cut reporting time by 30 per cent, while achieving full regulatory compliance with zero penalties or fines.
Her leadership guided the finance team through internal and external audits that consistently recorded no significant findings. She also contributed to strategic planning sessions that shaped the society’s long-term goals.
As IG Sacco enters this transition period, the leadership under Chairman Rodgers Waswa and acting CEO Mary Awino says it remains focused on inclusive growth, enhanced member value, and operational excellence while the board finalises its search for a substantive CEO.
