Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu held talks with African cooperative savings and credit leaders in Nairobi this week.

The Deputy Chief Justice and Vice President of the Supreme Court of Kenya was at the ACCOSCA Academy in Nairobi. There, she met the leadership of the African Confederation of Cooperative Savings and Credit Associations (ACCOSCA).

She paid a courtesy call on George Ombado, ACCOSCA Head of Mission. According to the confederation, the visit was about one thing: how to make cooperatives across Africa better led and better governed.

Lady Justice Mwilu brings her own Sacco experience to the conversation. She is the Board Chairperson of Sheria Sacco Society Ltd.

ACCOSCA says she and its leaders discussed deepening institutional synergies and strengthening cooperative leadership and governance. They also spoke about building an inclusive and sustainable cooperative movement across Africa, an aspiration both sides share.

On the occasion, ACCOSCA restated its approach. It says it will keep building strategic partnerships with eminent leaders, policymakers and institutions, in Africa and beyond. It will then put their expertise, influence and leadership to work in speeding up cooperative development.

Its goal, the confederation says, is to position financial cooperatives as catalysts for socioeconomic transformation across the continent.

Meanwhile, ACCOSCA is preparing for the 2026 SACCA Congress this October. Registration closes on October 7, 2026.
