  • SACCOs increased their approved digital financial products from 345 in 2024 to 407 in 2025.
  • The number of regulated SACCOs offering digital products grew from 236 to 267.
  • SACCO agency networks expanded, with agents rising to 4,377 as more societies adopted agency banking services.

Regulated savings and credit cooperative societies (SACCOs) in Kenya continued to expand their digital financial services in 2025. The number of approved digital products rose by 17.97 per cent as the sector increasingly embraces technology to improve access to financial services.

According to the Sacco Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) SACCO Supervision Annual Report 2025, approved digital financial products increased from 345 in 2024 to 407 in 2025.

The number of regulated SACCOs offering these products also grew from 236 to 267 during the reporting period. This reflects the sector’s expanding investment in technology-driven financial solutions.

Growth comes amid intensifying competition from commercial banks and digital credit providers licensed by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK). As a result, SACCOs are being pushed to diversify their service delivery channels and improve the accessibility and convenience of their products.

Regulated SACCOs also expanded their reach through agency banking, USSD platforms and internet-enabled applications. Members can now access financial services without necessarily visiting physical branches.

SASRA’s report also showed continued growth in agency banking services, with the number of SACCO agents increasing from 4,247 in 2024 to 4,377 in 2025.

Similarly, the number of regulated SACCOs operating agency services rose from 40 to 42 over the same period.

Expansion of agency networks is expected to improve access to financial services, particularly for members in areas where traditional banking facilities may be difficult to reach.

Overall, the growing adoption of digital platforms and agency services highlights the sector’s efforts to improve operational efficiency, enhance member experience and strengthen financial inclusion across the country.
