Bomet County is set to seal partnership with the Commodities Fund to revitalize coffee farming in the region and boost farmers’ yields.
This is after the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Cooperatives led by County Executive Committee Member (CECM) CPA Benard Cheruiyot, hosted a delegation from the Commodities Fund, led by Chief Executive Officer Nancy Cheruiyot, for a consultative meeting aimed at finalizing the process.
The courtesy visit marked the beginning of a five-day sensitization programme in the county, focusing on strategies to rejuvenate coffee production and empower farmers to fully exploit the potential of the crop.
The programme seeks to reawaken interest in coffee growing, which has declined over the years due to fluctuating market prices and limited access to affordable financing.
During the meeting, the Commodities Fund team outlined their ongoing efforts to provide financial support to farmers and cooperative societies, enabling them to invest in inputs, improve processing, and enhance productivity.

Cheruiyot encouraged Bomet farmers to take advantage of the fund’s credit facilities, noting that access to affordable capital is key to the revival of the coffee sector.
“The Commodities Fund remains committed to working with county governments and farmer cooperatives to ensure coffee farming becomes profitable and sustainable once again,” she stated.
In his remarks, Benard Cheruiyot welcomed the partnership, emphasizing that the County Government is keen on creating a conducive environment for agribusiness investment.
He assured the team of close collaboration between the county and the Commodities Fund to strengthen the coffee value chain from production to marketing.
Also present were Chief Officer for Agriculture Dr. Kibet Sitienei, Chief Officer for Cooperatives CPA Benard Koros, the Director of Cooperatives, and technical staff from the Department of Agriculture and Cooperatives.
The partnership between the County Government of Bomet and the Commodities Fund is expected to inject new life into the coffee industry, enhance farmer incomes, and contribute to the county’s broader agenda of promoting sustainable agricultural development.
