Bungoma County leaders have urged coffee farmers to embrace cooperatives and savings and credit societies (SACCOs) as a pathway to higher earnings and a stronger coffee sector.
Addressing growers at Lukusi Farmers’ Cooperative Society in Mihuu Ward, Webuye East, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Agriculture, Eng. Herbert Kibunguchi, said organized farming groups are better positioned to negotiate fair prices, access affordable credit, and secure stable markets for their produce.
“When farmers work together, they can process and market their coffee collectively, which translates into better prices and improved livelihoods,” Kibunguchi said.

He further noted that the county government is rolling out a package of interventions, including the distribution of certified seedlings, provision of extension services, and the establishment of a coffee seedling nursery at the Mabanga Farmers Training Centre.
CECM for Public Service Management, Administration and ICT, Dr. David Wamamili, who accompanied him, called on farmers to safeguard existing coffee factories. He assured them of the county government’s commitment—under Governor Kenneth Lusaka—to fully operationalize the Lukusi factory and restore confidence in the crop’s potential.
