The government is committed to creating jobs for youths across the country using digital platforms, Information Communications and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary (CS) Eliud Owalo has said.

Owalo said that this is in line with the government’s manifesto to create employment opportunities for the youth adding that they will ensure that all youth are engaged in income-generating activity in one way or the other.

Speaking at the African Inland Church (AIC) Rabuor in Kisumu County recently, he indicated that the government will create digital hubs right from the sub-locational level where young people can secure free internet services.

Already, Owalo said, the government has already rolled out the Jitume Initiative where youth are being trained on information and technology skills.

“President Ruto’s administration is committed to opening up the lake region in order to facilitate the ecosystem of fishing communities. We will put up a ring road from Busia to facilitate the transport of fish products,” he said.

Owalo added that the government has a blueprint for the Nyanza region where the sugar sub-sector will also be boosted.

Also present were former Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma, former area senator Fred Outa, Bondo MP Gideon Ochanda, Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) Director Samuel Ongou and a Director at the Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA) Lukas Kirindo.
