The government has warned traders exporting raw macadamia nuts (in shell and unprocessed macadamia) in the country.

In a statement Agriculture and Food Authority Director General Dr Bruno Linyiru indicated that several consignments of the raw macadamia nuts alleged to be in transit through Kenya have been intercepted at various border points.

The interception are in line with Kenya’s continued enforcement of the Crops Act, 2013 and the crops (Nuts and Oil crops) Regulations 2020.

The enforcement aim to safeguard the local nut processing industry and promote value addition within the country.

AFA indicates that the measure aims to support local farmers and processors by promoting domestic value addition through local processing and industrial development.

Kenya is the fourth-largest producer of macadamia nuts globally, holding a 13% market share.
