Hope surges for Lukenya society members whose property was demolished

A Nairobi-based Law firm has offered to represent Aimi Ma Lukenya Society members whose homes were demolished in the recent demolitions at the contested East African Portland Cement Company (EAPCC) land in Athi River in order to receive compensation for their massive losses.

Lawyer and Managing Partner at Nyambura, Kitela, Kanini & Kyatha Advocates, Joel Kyatha Mbaluka, said that reprieve for the victims lies in the pursuit of those who sold them the land rather than engaging EAPCC which was recently declared as the legal owner of the land.

“We are in the process of compiling a register of all those affected by the demolitions in order to file a class action suit against all the players involved in the Land Fraud,” he said.

He said that the Directors of the companies involved in the subdivision and sale of the land, their principals and agents and all Government officials involved in surveying and issuing of fake allotment letters and titles will be charged.

“This will enable the victims to get justice by recovering the money they were conned and all subsequent losses flowing therefrom be it construction expenses, documentation or court costs to the last cent,” Mbaluka said.

Aimi Ma Lukenya Society Chairman Julius Mutie Mutua, Treasurer Pascal Kiseli, Secretary Alex Mutemi and other senior government officials were earlier summoned to record statements with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) today, October 18, 2023.

Mavoko MP Patrick Makau was also summoned in connection to the saga.

“These individuals are hereby directed to report to the Director in charge of Land Fraud Investigations unit at the DCI headquarters tomorrow October 18th at 8.00 a.m.,” read a statement from the DCI signed by Mr. Ireri Kamwende.
