Kakamega County has commissioned a Ksh.17Million hatchery project as part its effort of ensuring food security, employment and agribusiness ventures for the young people in the county

Kakamega county Governor Fernandes Barasa during the launching of the said modern poultry hatchery in Eshirembe, Marama Central Ward, Butere Sub-County, said the project will be a game changer in the region with hundreds of youths being employed.

The solar-powered facility currently produces 2,500 chicks per month and is expected to increase the capacity to 10,000 chicks every 21 days, creating jobs and also helping farmers’ access to affordable, quality chicks.

Speaking during the official commissioning of the hatchery, Governor Barasa emphasized the County Government’s commitment to establishing similar hatcheries in all the 12 sub-counties of Kakamega.
