Kamuthi Housing Coop helps Kiambu boda boda riders acquire land

A group of boda boda riders from Ruiru in Kiambu County have a reason to celebrate after they acquired a 5-acre piece of land along Thika Road, with the help of Kamuthi Housing Cooperative Society.

The Boda Boda Association, consisting of 200 members, received a title deed after diligently saving Ksh50 per day.

Lawrence Kariuki, the boda boda group’s chairperson, said their savings eventually grew to the point where the housing Sacco was able to loan them funds needed to purchase the land.

“Our plan is to construct rental houses on the property,” he said, adding that the Sacco has been a reliable and supportive partner, mentoring and guiding them towards their goals.

Ruiru MP, Simon King’ara, who has been instrumental in supporting and advising the boda boda riders, believes that with proper guidance, small business owners can achieve their dreams and rise to success.

Kamuthi Housing Cooperative Society, formed in 1964 as Kahawa Farmers and registered as a cooperative in 1986, has continued to make a positive impact on people’s lives.

As the demand for land ownership and settlement continues to rise, the society has seen significant growth in its membership which is currently over 8,000.

Some of the notable projects undertaken by the society include the Thika Phase I Project, Buffalo Hills Leisure and Golf Village, a luxurious golf estate located 7km off the Thika superhighway and 1 km from the Greater Eastern bypass.

Additionally, they have the Soya Dam Estate, a well-planned development project situated 2 km from Ngoliba town and 800 m from Gate-iguru-Makuyu road.
